Cathedral hosts novena to Our Lady of Lourdes next month

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes will observe a Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes on Feb. 3-11, 2001, ending on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Father Darrin Connall, vocations director for the diocese, rector of Bishop White Seminary and former pastor at Immaculate Conception in Colville, will open the novena as celebrant and homilist for the Masses of Saturday, Feb. 3 (5 p.m.) and Sunday, Feb. 4 6:30, 9 and 11 a.m., and 7 p.m.

Father Connall also will make novena presentations at the noon Mass on Monday, Feb. 5; Tuesday, Feb. 6; and Friday, Feb. 9.

Bishop Skylstad will close the novena as celebrant and homilist for the weekend Masses on Feb. 10 and 11.

Msgr. James Ribble, rector of the cathedral, will have the noon Masses on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 7 and 8.

Jesuit Father Robert Goebel will celebrate the 6:30 am Masses daily during the Novena.

The novena also will include:

  • Opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation at 11 a.m. daily, Monday through Friday, and on Saturday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, February 11, from 3-4:30 p.m.
  • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament daily, Monday through Friday, from the end of the noon Mass until rosary and Benediction at 5 p.m. each of those days. Deacon Richard Skok will lead these services.
  • Blessing with water from the Grotto at Lourdes, France, at the close of Benediction each day, and at 6:30 a.m. Mass on February 10. Individual vials of the blessed water will be available to participants at those times.

Special focus for the Monday of the novena will be the comforting of the sick. That day is also the feast day of St. Agatha, patroness of nurses.

Special focus for the Thursday of the novena will be on children. Thursday is the feast day of Jerome Emiliani, patron of orphans and abandoned children.

Special focus on Friday will be the needs of the aged and infirm.

A pancake breakfast will be served on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes Sunday, Feb. 11, following the 9 and 11 a.m. Masses.
