The Annual Catholic Appeal is at 78 percent of the $1.843 million goal.

Steve Kocharhook, Director of Development for the Spokane Diocese, made the announcement on the Appeal’s progress on Tuesday, March 13.

“Response by the parishioners of the diocese has been tremendous,” Kocharhook said.

So far the Appeal office has received pledges of $1,411,769 from 7,758 donors. The pledges are running ahead of last year at the same time, when 69 percent of the goal had been pledged.

The number of donors is greater than last year also, when 5,960 donors had made a pledge by the second week of March.

Fourteen parishes have reached at least 100 percent of the parish goal. Another nine parishes have reached 90 percent.

“When all of the pledges were calculated at the end of the Appeal last year, there were 39 parishes that reached 100 percent” of goal, Kocharhook said.

He anticipates that more parishes will reach the 100 percent level this year.

The Appeal office is preparing for a follow-up effort, scheduled to begin March 26, when a letter will be sent to registered Catholic households that have not yet responded to Bishop Skylstad’s initial request for a donation.

Kocharhook also said that a telephone follow-up would take place next month.

There is still time to make a contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal for 2001. All parishes have envelopes available for anyone who wants to make an Appeal pledge.

Information about individual parishes can be found on the Appeal web site.
