Parishes urged to participate in baby showers for single mothers in need

the Inland Register

(From the March 22, 2001 edition of the Inland Register)

A baby shower is an exciting event, for the hostess, for the new mother, for the relatives and for friends. Everyone gathers to share the joy of the mom as gifts are unwrapped and displayed.

But baby showers can be fun even if the mother is not known. Parishes in the diocese are being asked to host baby showers on Mother’s Day — Sunday, May 13 — for needy single mothers.

The request comes through a new program called A Blessed Event, first held last year in St. Peter Parish. Parishioners can provide baby layettes, blankets, new baby clothes, diapers, and other baby supplies.

The gifts will be distributed to the appropriate agencies and persons needing assistance.

For more information, call Sister Joanne McGoldrick at 534-2227, extension 226.
