Bishop White hosts junior high Vocation Day

the Inland Register

(From the June 15, 2001 edition of the Inland Register)

Bishop White Seminary in Spokane hosted a Vocation Day this spring for seventh and eighth graders from Cataldo School, the morning of April 25.

Most of the boys’ activities were centered around the seminary. The girls visited the Convent of the Holy Names (the Sisters of the Holy Names) and the Monastery of St. Clare (the Poor Clare Sisters).

Besides events at Bishop White, the boys also had a walk around the nearby Gonzaga University campus and had a talk with Jesuit seminarian Sean Raftis, about life in that Religious community.

The morning’s schedule was busy at the seminary. Among those giving talks were Father Darrin Connall, the rector and Vocations Director for the diocese; seminarians Kevin Oiland and Matthew Nicks; and Father Leo McKernan, a member of the seminary’s formation team.

Father Richard Semple, a Bishop White alumnus who is now parochial vicar at St. Augustine Parish in Spokane, celebrated Mass.

The students returned to regularly scheduled classes in time for lunch.
