New employee orientation introduces 44 staff to diocesan school structure

the Inland Register

(From the Sept. 13, 2001 edition of the Inland Register)

Forty-four new school employees converged on the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, Spokane, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 15 for orientation sessions. These two days were facilitated by Duane Schafer, the Diocesan Superintendent of Schools, and Joanne Duffy, newly hired this year as the Diocesan Curriculum Coordinator.

During these two intensive days the new school employees learned all about the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Spokane and the governance structure within the Catholic Church, reviewed the Diocesan personnel policies, discussed school law issues, were fingerprinted for an FBI Background Check, experienced training on bloodborne pathogens, sexual abuse and sexual harassment, viewed a video on asbestos in the schools, met with the personnel benefit brokers, and generally reviewed diocesan procedures pertaining to the Catholic schools.

According to diocesan policy, all new personnel are required to participate in a new employee orientation.
