Hard rocking for St. Vincent de Paul

the Inland Register

(From the Oct. 25, 2001 edition of the Inland Register)

Oct. 11 saw some serious rocking – though no rolling – at the St. Vincent de Paul complex on East Trent in Spokane.

Senior Vincentians – Bruno Kensock, Dan Taylor, Gene Brickner, Leon Baillei, Frank Rose, Pete Brickner, and Lillian Krzmic – raised funds and awareness of the conference’s work with a rock-a-thon, riding rocking chairs for pledges and donations. The chairs were positioned on the back of a retired military flatbed truck, with tarps to protect from the sun.

Radio station Oldies 101.1 came by to provide music and also provided pizza for lunch.

The event got good publicity for the organization, raised about $500 in cash donations, and brought in other usable items as well.

Winner of the rocking marathon was Pete Brickner, at 9 hours, 14 minutes.
