150 Years Ago: 1851
Kettle Falls: As Superior of the Rocky Mountain Missions, Jesuit Father Joseph Joset took charge of St. Paul Mission at Kettle Falls.

125 Years Ago: 1876
Pomeroy: Plans for the only school in Garfield County were being set up by Father W. Anschwand. Some 39 students are expected to enroll.

100 Years Ago: 1901
Wauconda: Father Stephen DeRouge, stationed in Omak, traveled to the Turoda Creek Valley to say Mass at the home of Harry Van Brand or at William Peone’s place.

75 Years Ago: 1926
Spokane: The St. Vincent de Paul Society reported total donations of $160.12. Total expenditures for food and board came to $379.98. The Society helped 39 families and visited 449 families. The needy were given food and 12 families given medical help.

50 Years Ago: 1951
Tonasket: Dominican Sister Antonia at Immaculate Conception School is teaching the same children she cared for when they were born in the local hospital. The Sister’s Motherhouse is in Kettle Falls.
Metaline Falls: Men from St. Joseph Parish finished a concrete walk in front of the church. Snow shoveling will now be easier, and parishioners can keep out of the mud. Workers included Al Rumelhart, Don Conley, Aleck Ripple and Father John O’Brien.
Spokane: Catherine Costello, long-time St. Francis Xavier parishioner, died. Her son, Jesuit Father William Costello, said the requiem Mass. Father Joseph Pineau and Mr. Frank Costello, another of her sons and also a Jesuit, assisted.
Uniontown: Father Herman Loeffler was buried in the local cemetery. The German-born priest had been serving in the diocese since it was established in 1914, and had been stationed in Uniontown for the last 22 years.

25 Years Ago: l976
Spokane: Officers were elected for the senior class at Marycliff High School: Nancy Butler, Mollie McKenzie, Laurie Burns, and Lollie Lamb. Junior officers are Gloria Riggers, Sheila Mur-phy, Laurie Mitchell and Debbie Zinkgraf.
Colfax: The Ray McDonald family sponsored two Laotian families. The Yang Nao Ying and the Vu Fu families arrived from refugee camps in Thailand.

10 Years Ago: 1991
Vatican City: Pope John Paul II has named Bishop Lawrence Welsh Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Minneapolis-St. Paul. Bishop Welsh is a former bishop of the Diocese of Spokane.
Spokane: Nancy Loberg of St. Thomas More Parish has joined the staff of the Inland Register as an advertising sales representative.
Colville: Sister Adele Maureen Bresnahan of the Sisters of the Holy Names died. She was born in Colville in 1911 and taught at both Holy Names High School and Holy Names College in Spokane.
