Father Joseph W. Conyard SJ

Jesuit Father Joseph Conyard died Nov. 27 in Spokane.

The vigil was held at Jesuit House Chapel on the Gonzaga University campus Nov. 30. The funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 1, also at Jesuit House. A memorial service also was held at the chapel at Seattle University Dec. 5.

He was educated in Spokane, Portland and Seattle before entering the Society of Jesus in 1948.

His theological studies were at Alma College, Los Gatos, Calif. He was ordained a priest in Spokane on June 13, 1959; he pronounced final vows in 1952.

Among his ministries: directing the Jesuit Seminary and Mission Bureau, Portland, Ore.; director of the International Education Development Corporation, New York; Communications Director, Diocese of Little Rock, Ark.; provincial of the Oregon Province; and retreat and spirituality ministry in Seattle.

Sister Julian (Sarah Marie) Moran SP

Providence Sister Julian Moran died Nov. 10 at Mount St. Joseph, Spokane, at the age of 93. She had been a member of the Providence community for more than 74 years.

The vigil service was held Nov. 16 at Mount St. Joseph. The funeral Mass was celebrated there the next day. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Sister Julian was born in Moore, Mont. She lived in Montana until she entered the Providence novitiate in Seattle in 1927. She professed vows in 1928 and made final vows in 1931.

She held degrees from the University of Great Falls and from DePaul University, Chicago. She also took part in the CREDO continuing education program at Gonzaga University.

Her ministry involved education in many forms: as a teacher in Montana and Washington; as a principal, including st. Patrick School, Walla Walla; and as novice director at Mount St. Vincent, Seattle. She also served as administrator and superior of Mount St. Joseph, Spokane.

She retired in 1989 but continued as a receptionist at Mouint St. Joseph until 1994.
