Giving tree at Morning Star
The boys of Morning Star Boys’ Ranch established a Giving Tree during this past Advent. For each dollar donated to their “alms jar,” a boy was invited to place his Christmas ornament on the tree, located in the Ranch’s dining room. A total of $47 was collected and sent to Catholic Charities for relief efforts in Afghanistan.

Eastern Washington Legislative Conference is Jan. 26 in Spokane
The Eastern Washington Legislative Conference, co-sponsored by the Washington Association of Churches and the Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries (SCEM), is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington in Spokane.
Keynote speaker for the annual conference is Eastern Washington University economics professor Dr. Doug Orr.
Registration is $20 per person, which includes lunch; child care is available for $5 per child, which also includes lunch.

Refresher lesson
Father Dan Wetzler, pastor of St. Paschal Parish in Spokane, recently held a session with the parish’s altar servers, giving a review of duties and responsibilities. The parish’s altar servers come from grades 5-8, after which time the children are encouraged to continue their involvement, as Eucharistic Ministers or lectors.

St. Patrick School, Spokane, offers Christmas play
Last month the students at St. Patrick School, Spokane, presented the play “C.H.R.I.S.T.M.A.S.: The Mystery of the Missing Manger," the story of a teacher trying to deliver the lesson of the true meaning of Christmas to her class.

Early years of marriage are focus of February workshop
St. Aloysius Parish’s Family Ministry is sponsoring a February workshop specifically aimed at couples married 1-5 years.
Titled “This Is Holy? Looking Again at Our Love, Communication and Conflict,” the workshop is set for Sunday, Feb. 10, from 1:30-5 p.m. in the parish center, on the southwest corner of Boone and Astor.
The workshop is described as “an opportunity to look at the journey and process of the sacrament of marriage,” including how couples express love, and discussion of such key values as time, sex and money.
Leading the workshop will be Kathy Finley. Cost is $25 per couple; registration is limited to 10 couples. Registration deadline is Feb. 5.

Welcome visitor
St. Nicholas, it’s said, came to St. Mary School on his feast day, Dec. 6. During his trip he visited each classroom, quizzed students, and distributed treat bags with edible goodies and a holy card.

Spokane pastor to address anti-abortion rally Jan. 20
Father Dan Wetzler, pastor of St. Paschal Parish in Spokane, will be among the speakers addressing an anti-abortion rally scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 20, from 2-3:30 p.m.
The rally will be held at Fourth memorial Church, 2000 N. Standard in Spokane.
After the rally, participants will march to the Planned Parenthood clinic at 123 E. Indiana.
The rally is open to everyone. The event is co-sponsored by Lifeline Ministries and the Greater Association of Evangelicals.
