As of Tuesday, Feb. 19, pledges to the Annual Catholic Appeal for 2002 had reached $763,921 from 3,772 donors, reported Steve Kocharhook, the Development Director for the Spokane Diocese.

“The amount pledged is 38 percent of the $2 million goal for the Appeal,” he said. “This is about where we expect to be at this time in the Appeal, just one week after Commitment Sunday.

The Annual Catholic Appeal is the one time each year that Bishop Skylstad asks the members of the Catholic community in Eastern Washington to support his ministry as the leader of the local Church and to fund the diocesan offices that support him in his work.

Pledges continue to come into the Appeal Office both through the parish Sunday collection and by mail.

Some donors have chosen to use the Internet to make their contribution or pledge to the Appeal. By logging onto the Annual Catholic Appeal website and going to the “Contribute Online” page, donors have the option to make a one-time contribution or a pledge to be paid over a specified number of months. Donors can then designate if their pledge or contribution is to be paid using a credit card or electronic check.

Kocharhook said that the first 100 people using the Appeal website to make their pledge or contribution will receive a special gift.

There is still time to make a pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal for 2002. People can use the special pledge envelope that was sent to them by Bishop Skylstad.

If they did not receive an envelope from the Bishop, pledge envelopes are available in the pews at all of the parishes throughout the Diocese.
