Annual Catholic Appeal tops 75 percent

the Inland Register

(From the March 21, 2002 edition of the Inland Register

The Annual Catholic Appeal Office reported that of Wednesday, March 13, $1,492,771 had been pledged by 7,877 donors. With just one week to go before the follow-up process begins, the Appeal is at 75 percent of its $2 million goal.

Steve Kocharhook, the diocese’s Director of Development, noted that the number of donors is not as high as it was last year at the same time. “We have about 1,000 fewer donors so far this year,” he said. The dollar amount of the pledges remains high, however, so the people who are pledging are pledging larger amounts.

The average pledge right now is $189.50.

Beginning the last week of March, everyone who has not yet made a pledge or sent information to the Appeal Office that they are not able to contribute this year will receive a second request to support the Appeal. With just $500,000 to go to reach the goal in pledges, the follow-up will be an extremely important part of the process this year.

People can wait until they receive their follow-up letter to make a pledge,” Kocharhook said, “or they can use one of the envelopes that can be found in the pews in all parishes throughout the diocese. It is also possible to make a pledge or contribution to the Appeal by going to the Annual Appeal website, where they can also check on their parish’s progress toward reaching its own goal.”

Anyone who made a pledge during February or March will receive their first reminder statement during the last week of March. Anyone wanting to set up an automatic transfer from their bank account to make payments on their pledge can call Kathy Moran at (509) 358-4283 or (800) 689-9819 to make the proper arrangements.

Below is the list of parishes showing the percent of goal they have reached and the number of donors from the parish. At this time the number of donors does not include the people who have indicated they are not able to make a pledge or contribution this year.
