Northwest: Bishop Augustine Blanchet requested from Montreal Bishop Bourget the services of the Sisters of Providence, for ministry in the Indian missions of the Northwest.
125 Years Ago: 1877
Pomeroy: The Dominican Sisters of New York accepted an invitation from Archbishop Gross of Oregon City to open a convent and school in the Territory. Pomeroy was their eventual destination.
100 Years Ago: 1902
Colfax: Father B. Gerand baptized Helen Harter, daughter of Martin and Hedwig Harter. Godparents were Peter and Clara Stravens.
Uniontown: Father J. Faust baptized Eleanor Jacobs, daughter of Mathew and Cara Jacobs from Kendrick. Idaho. Godparents were Lambert and Anna Tauten.
75 Years Ago: 1927
Spokane: The Midget Basketball team season is over. Gonzaga High members are Sweeney (the mascot), Johnson, D. Sweeney, R. Luger, Leonnig, J. Feuler, Toner, Holliet and White.
Spokane: Father William Condon, parish assistant at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, was appointed secretary to Bishop Charles White.
50 Years Ago: 1952
Colton: Hubert Meyer began moving dirt with his caterpillar for the new Notre Dame Academy gym. Meyer is also the father of Donna Meyer, the school's student body president.
Spokane: The Good Friday "Tre Ore" at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes will include Bishop White celebrating the Mass of the Pre-Sanctified. Preaching will be Jesuit Father Maurice Meagher. The Passion will be chanted by Fathers John Prince, Joseph Pash and Armand Laverdiere.
25 Years Ago: 1977
Spokane: Holy Names Sister Sheila McEvoy, Provincial for her community, selected new members for the Provincial Team: Sisters Anne Skok and Frances DesRosier. Sister Mary Elizabeth Dunton has been appointed Vice President of Fort Wright College.
Okanogan: Fourth graders from Our Lady of the Valley Parish enacted a story of St. Francis of Assisi. Mary Morris and Janet Frank directed Lorena Boyd, Tim Springer and Carolyn Finley in the play.
10 Years Ago: 1992
Spokane: Celebrating 50 years of priestly ordination were Fathers William Brennan, Eugene Mulligan and Terence Tully.
Spokane: David Dudinsky, a future deacon of the Spokane Diocese, has been chosen to replace Mike Trudeau as principal of Cataldo School. Dudinsky comes to the post from Lamanna High School in Priest Lake, Idaho.
