(From the Aug. 1, 2002 edition of the Inland Register)

Two deacons of the Spokane Diocese have been given new parish assignments by Bishop Skylstad. Deacon Roy Dahl, previously assigned to St. Peter Parish in Spokane, has been assigned to St. Francis Xavier Parish, also in Spokane.

Deacon Don Whitney, formerly at St. Francis Xavier, has been assigned to Mary Queen Parish, Spokane.

Both assignments were effective July 1.

Both men report that their pastoral responsibilities are still being determined in detail.

Deacon Dahl was ordained June 24, 1999, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

He and his wife, Carol, have four children.

He retired from Westinghouse Hanford Company, but continues to work as a consultant in nuclear technology. He holds a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University; his fields of study include chemistry, chemical engineering, and nuclear engineering.

Deacon Whitney was ordained May 11, 2001, also at the Cathedral.

He and his wife, Laura, have two children.

Deacon Whitney is a registered nurse by training who now manages Inland Medical, a home medical equipment company. He has held that position for over 10 years.
