Sister Eugenia (Rosaleen) O’Brien SP

Providence Sister Eugenia O’Brien, 89, died July 12 at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle.

The vigil service was July 16. The funeral Mass was celebrated the next morning. Both took place at St. Joseph Residence.

She was born in St. Joe, Idaho, in 1913 and entered the Providence novitiate in Seattle in 1932. She made her final vows four years later.

Sister Eugenia held degrees in philosophy and music, both from Seattle University.

Most of her years of service were devoted to teaching music, including two years at St. Vincent Academy in Walla Walla. She also taught in Moxee, Wash., and Fairbanks, Alaska.

She retired to St. Joseph Residence in 1993.

Sister M. Petronella (Dora Loraine) Keil SNJM

Sister M. Petronella Keil of the Sisters of the Holy Names died July 6, at the age of 94, at Marylhurst, Ore.

The funeral Mass was celebrated July 16 at the Provincial House Chapel in Marylhurst.

She was born in Oakland, Calif. She graduated from St. Mary Academy, Portland, Ore., and earned a degree and teaching credentials from the University of Oregon.

After teaching for a short time she entered the Holy Names novitiate at Marylhurst. She taught and served as a principal in schools in the Northwest, including St. Boniface School, Uniontown, and Holy Names Academy, Spokane, in the Spokane Diocese.

Sister Petronella also served as a missionary in Lesotho, in southern Africa.

She retired to the Marylhurst convent in 1983.
