Saturday, Nov. 2, saw some 300 junior high youth, high school helpers and adult supervisors come together for the sixth annual Junior High Faith Day.

The annual event, with the theme “Soul, Spirit, and Still Searching,” was held at Gonzaga Prep from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

An “E-Team” of high school youth planned and executed the day’s events. Team members included Laura Daily, Michael Caparosa, David Gaines, and Will Bow.

Planning for Faith Day began back in September.

The team contributed prayer, songs, group activities, ice-breaking exercises, gave talks witnessing to their faith, and performed a skit to help make the day meaningful and memorable.

Bishop Skylstad visited the event after lunch. The bishop joined the group for prayer and reflection on the readings of the day.

He talked with the young people about his own call to the priesthood and withstood a barrage of queries during a question-and-answer session. The youth had the opportunity to learn more about the bishop himself, as well as his experiences in ministry, including experiences with Pope John Paul II.

The turnout was the highest so far for any junior high Faith Day in the diocese’s history.

Participants came from the following parishes: Holy Family (Clarkston), Holy Family (Fair-child Air Force Base), Holy Rosary (Pomeroy), Holy Rosary (Tonasket), Immaculate Conception (Colville), Our Lady of Fatima (Spokane), Our Lady of the Lake (Tum Tum), Sacred Heart (Brewster), Sacred Heart (Othello), Sacred Heart (Pullman), St. Joseph (Colbert), St. Joseph (Otis Orchard), St. Michael (Inchelium), St. Patrick (Colfax), St. Patrick (Pasco), St. Rose of Lima (Cheney), Walla Walla Catholic Middle School Youth Ministry (Assumption, St. Francis, St. Patrick parishes), and Holy Apostles (East Wenatchee, in the Yakima Diocese). Spokane parishes included St. Pascal, St. Patrick, St. Thomas More, Sacred Heart, St. Augustine, St. Francis of Assisi, St. John Vianney, and St. Mary.
