the Inland Register
(From the Jan. 16, 2003 edition of the Inland Register)
Catholic Charities is calling upon the people of Eastern Washington to help the poor and vulnerable continue to receive crucial services, by contributing to the 2002 Catholic Charities Christmas Collection.
As of Jan. 8, donations of $598,602.34 have been received from 4,597 donors toward this year’s Collection goal of $675,000.
A recent donation arrived with the following note: “Enclosed is $50 for St. Margaret Shelter. We think you do wonders there and feel blessed to be a small part of your endeavors.”
Funds contributed to the Christmas Collection help provide food, shelter and clothing to those most in need. Of the monies raised through the collection, 96 percent is used to fund programs.
The other 4 percent is used to conduct the campaign itself.
For 90 years Catholic Charities has been committed to providing help and offering hope. As long as a need remains, this work, with the help of the community, will continue.
Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Spokane operates 25 programs in 37 locations throughout the 13 counties in Eastern Washington. The programs provide assistance to more than 100,000 people of all faiths each year.
Donations to the 2002 Christmas Collection still can be mailed directly to Catholic Charities, Christmas Collection 2002, at P.O. Box 1453, Spokane, WA 99210-1453, or brought to the Catholic Charities offices on the first floor of the Catholic Pastoral Center, 1023 W. Riverside Ave. in Spokane.
