Sister Karen Schettler FSPA

Sister Karen Schettler, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse, Wis.

A prayer service was held in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 16, in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.

Sister Karen was born on July 10, 1918, to Bernard and Emma (Hoebing) Schettler on a farm near Breda, Iowa. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1939, and made profession of vows in 1942.

She earned degrees in music and education, and served as a music teacher and organist for nearly 30 years in parishes in Washington, Iowa and Oklahoma. She spent 17 of those years at St. Anthony Parish, Spokane.

Another nine years were spent in parish ministry in Oklahoma and South Dakota.

Sister Karen retired to St. Rose Convent, La Crosse, Wis., in 1983 and to Villa St. Joseph in 1990.
