The first of what promises to be an annual event for
Immaculate Heart Retreat Center brought response from the community beyond any of the plannersí expectations.
A Motherís Day brunch was held this year on Sunday, May 11, at the Retreat Center, located south of Spokane at 6911 S. Ben Burr Rd.
A sunny day contributed to what became a festive gathering of families young and old.
The day began with Mass at the Retreat Center with a crowd three times the normal size for Sunday Mass. For the brunch following, some 400 tickets were sold.
A play area was set up for the Centerís lawns, with supervised games for children and adults alike.
Brunch included a full meal with a variety of foods, as well as champagne.
A few select visitors offered various religious goods, including carvings and paintings.
Among those assisting were the youth groups from Our Lady of the Valley Parish, Okanogan, and St. Peter Parish, Spokane, as well as members of Morning Star Boysí Ranch and students from Gonzaga Prep.
Organizing the event were volunteers Jan Prawdzik and Laura Whitney.
