The seventh annual “Caring for Kids” luncheon, to benefit St. Anne Children and Family Center and Morning Star Boys’ Ranch, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Red Lion Grand at the Park Hotel, 303 W. North River Drive, Spokane.

The event will begin at 11:30 a.m.

This year’s speaker, Kelly McBride, is a member at the Poynter Institute, a non-profit school dedicated to improving and inspiring the best practices in American Journalism. Kelly officially belongs to the school’s ethics department, but she teaches writing and editing and occasionally works with the visual journalism faculty. The school is located in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Prior to working at Poynter, McBride spent 14 years as a reporter for The Spokesman-Review, Spokane’s daily newspaper, where she covered crime for six years and religion for eight.

She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in Religious Studies from Gonzaga University.

Tickets are $100. For more information or reservations, call 358-4254.
