Sister Margaret (Mary Gerard) Vander Heyden SSND

Sister Margaret Vander Heyden, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died Sept. 9 at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato, Minn. She was 91 years old; she had been a member of her Religious com-munity for 66 years.

Community vespers were prayed for her the evening of Sept. 11. The funeral Mass was celebrated the next day. Both vespers and funeral took place at Good Counsel Convent.

Sister Margaret was born in Faribault, Minn., and was educated by Dominican Sisters. She later met members of the School Sisters order and, after a parish mission, she entered candidature. She made final profession in 1937.

She taught in Washington for 23 years, in Spokane, Colton and Chewelah. Later ministry took place in the Midwest.

She retired in 1987.

Sister M. Doris Ellen (Virginia) Sullivan SNJM

Sister Doris Ellen Sullivan of the Sisters of the Holy Names died Sept. 6. She was 85 years old.

The vigil service was held Sept. 9. The funeral Mass was celebrated the next morning. Both too place in the chapel of the Convent of the Holy Names in Spokane.

She was born near Pomeroy, Wash., and attended Hoy Names Academy and Normal School in Spokane. She went on to earn degrees from Holy Names College and Gonzaga University.

She entered the Holy Names community in 1939. Two years later she pronounced vows. She taught for 15 years before becoming dean of women at Marylhurst College, Ore., in 1956.

Sister Dorisís later ministries included service as community director for her order, as well as support ministries in the Yakima Diocese and in Alaska.

Sister Clara M. (Frances Maureen) Budig SNJM

Sister Clara M. Budig, a Holy Names Sister since 1938, died Sept. 12. The vigil service was Sept. 15; the funeral, Sept. 16. Both took place at the Convent of the Holy Names in Spokane.

She was born in Kansas. Her family moved to Genesee, Idaho, and she finished high school in Uniontown, Wash., before entering Holy Names Normal School.

She taught in Belmont, Wash., before entering the Holy Names community in 1938.

Sister taught in schools in Oregon and Washington for many years before retiring in 1981, when she became cook and housekeeper for the late Bishop Lawrence Welsh of Spokane. She retired to her Religious community in 1990.
