Cathedral music director is part of Japanese cultural exchange

Max Mendez, music director at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, has been selected to participate in a music and cultural exchange between the Mukagawa Institute and Eastern Washington University from Feb. 21-29.
Mendez and three other singers from EWU will travel to Osaka, Japan and perform in a series of formal and community concerts. This male quartet will sing repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony to Romantic Part songs and Barbershop Quartet. The singers will also join the Mukagawa Womenís University womenís quartet and perform Brahmsí Liebeslieder Waltzes.
Mendez will complete the trip on Feb. 28 by performing as the bass soloist in Mozartís Requiem Mass.
Besides being the music director of the Cathedral, Mendez is an active soloist and music director in Spokane. He is on the voice faculty at Gonzaga University and will complete his Masterís Degree in music in June from Eastern Washington University.
