Benedictine Sister Marcella Riener, 95, died Jan. 28, 2004, at the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, Idaho.
The vigil service was held held Feb. 3 in the monastery chapel. The funeral Mass was celebrated there the next day.
She was born October 11, 1908, to Joseph and Mary Hutfles Riener, in Greencreek, Idaho. She joined the Monastery of St. Gertrude in 1927. She made her monastic profession two years later.
She taught in Chewelah and Colton in the Spokane Diocese, as well as in Idaho. In her retirement she visited patients in the hospital and sewed clothes for the poor and for the pregnancy counseling center in Lewiston. The Pregnancy Center presented her a plaque of appreciation during her 90th birthday party.

Franciscan Brother Nicholas Heinrich died Feb. 1 at the age of 88. He had been a friar for 68 of those years.
The funeral was celebrated at Mission Santa Barbara in California.
He was born in Alameda, Calif., and entered the Franciscan order in 1935 at San Luis Rey, Calif.
He ministered in many parts of the American West, including Tularosa, N.M., and Spokane.
Brother Nicholas retired in 1999.
