PORT TOWNSEND – Father Gary Sumpter, parochial vicar of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish, celebrates his 25th anniversary of priestly ordination this year.

Spokane Diocese parishioners may remember Father Sumpter; he was originally ordained for the Church in Eastern Washington, by Bishop Lawrence Welsh. He later moved to minister in the Diocese of Santa Rosa, Calif., before returning to the Northwest and ministry in the Archdiocese of Seattle.
