On Aug. 11, Bishop William Skylstad led a blessing ceremony at Sacred Heart Medical Center’s new West Tower. The West Tower’s new Surgery Center begins operations Aug. 30, followed by the Women’s Health Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit opening for business in late September.
Skip Davis, CEO of Sacred Heart and its parent organization, Providence Health Care, opened the ceremony. “We traveled around the country, looking at the best of the best, and brought that here to Spokane, creating the most contemporary facility possible,” he said. “ We are taking the lead and moving Sacred Heart to a new dimension.”
Sister Margaret Botch, representing the Sisters of Providence leadership team, spoke of previous SHMC campus expansions and the Medical Center’s commitment to carrying out the mission of the Sisters.
“We’re not only here to bless a building,” she said, “but to bless a work … the ministry of Jesus.”
Said Bishop Skylstad, “I remember standing here on a pile of rock and dust two years ago,” when he took part in groundbreaking ceremonies for the West Tower. “Now as you begin serving patients in your beautiful new facility, remember that Jesus said, ‘Whatever you do to the least of these, you also do unto me.’”
The bishop was escorted through the seven-story building to bless various departments and staff members.
Sacred Heart will hold a public open house of the West Tower on Sept. 19, 1-5 p.m.
