Seminary campaign counts over $9.6 million in pledges

the Inland Register

(From the Oct. 21, 2004 edition of the Inland Register)

The Campaign for the Education of Seminarians, “Here I am, Lord, send me,” has reached $9,627,721 in pledges from more than 7,100 generous families from all across Eastern Washington. Already, more than $2.5 million has been collected on the pledges.

The campaign is funding an endowment in the Catholic Foundation that supports the education of future priests, construction of a new building for Bishop White Seminary, operating expenses for the seminary program and the 2004 Annual Catholic Appeal.

Click here for a chart of parish progress statistics (requires Adobe Reader). As can be seen on the chart, the 10 parishes in Block I have raised 112 percent of the combined goal of $992,780 from 45 percent of the families in those parishes. Block II parishes have amassed pledges totaling $5,126,259 from 33 percent of parish families. Parishes in Block III reached $1,904,365 from 25 percent of registered families.

Over the past few weeks individuals who have not yet had an opportunity to make a pledge to the campaign received a letter asking for their support. Many people have responded by making a contribution.

As the campaign continues to near its goal it is important that each and every Catholic family in the Diocese of Spokane give prayerful consideration to what they can do for the success of this campaign. While not everyone can give the same amount, everyone can make an equal sacrifice in the form of a pledge extended over four years.

For questions about the campaign, how to make a gift using stock or other securities, or about setting up a gift that can pay an income for life, please contact the Diocesan Development Office at 509-358-4280.

Prayers and continued support of the campaign are greatly appreciated.
