Sister Mary Kathryn (Anna Jean) Trenary SNJM

The funeral Mass for Holy Names Sister Mary Kathryn Trenary was celebrated at the Convent of the Holy Names on March 28. Sister Mary Kathryn died March 24 at the age of 80.

She attended Sacred Heart School and Holy Names Academy, Spokane, before entering the Holy Names community in 1943. She pronounced her vows in the summer of 1945.

She held degrees in music and music education from Holy Names College and Eastern Washington University, and studied theology at Fort Wright College as well. Her elementary school teaching assignments included schools throughout Oregon and Washington, including Spokane, where she served from 1974-1983 at St. Patrick School.

In 1998 she began teaching music at Heritage College (now University), Toppenish, in the Yakima Diocese. She also taught music appreciation and global fine arts. She established the school’s first music room and arranged donation of a grand piano.

While serving in Central Washington, she also worked with religious education students and choirs and gave group piano lessons.
