Chase Youth honorees from Morning Star

the Inland Register

(From the April 28, 2005 edition of the Inland Register)

On March 24, 2005, five boys from Morning Star Boys’ Ranch’s Responsible Living Program were honored with a group Chase Youth Award for their personal achievement. Bosco House residents Dillon and Bryan (pictured above) graced the stage of the Opera House to receive the award from Mayor Jim West (right) and County Commissioner Mark Richards (left). The five boys share two apartments in a South Hill triplex that the Ranch calls St. John Bosco House, so named in honor of the patron saint of boys. With the supervision of a social worker, the boys must keep their apartments clean to the Ranch’s standards, maintain good school attendance and performance, and be active in after-school sports or hold a job. They also serve the community by volunteering for various groups. At Christmas, they join the Morning Star Boys Ranch Caroling group to perform at churches, and retirement homes. Four of these boys are high school seniors and are college-bound after graduating in June. These accomplishments would be an admirable accomplishment for any teenage boy, but for the boys from Morning Star Boys’ Ranch, who have overcome numerous personal challenges before they arrived at the Ranch, this is exceptional.
