Rob McCann to succeed Donna Hanson in Charities post
the Inland Register
(From the Sept. 8, 2005 edition of the Inland Register)
Rob McCann (right), associate director of Catholic Charities since February 2000, will succeed Donna Hanson as head of the agency upon her retirement.
Catholic Charities made the announcement Aug. 31.
Prior to moving to Spokane, McCann worked with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the U.S. bishops’ overseas development and emergency relief agency, in some of the most poverty-stricken areas of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. His area of specialty with CRS included refugee camp management and evaluation.
As a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Rob taught kindergarten in Woodburn, Ore., and did community outreach work with the Jesuits in Torreon, Mexico, and in the Latino projects of East Los Angeles.
In Spokane, McCann has contributed his time and talents to the L’Arche Community, Habitat for Humanity, Crosswalk Shelter, and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau. He recently was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Washington State Catholic Conference.
He holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership and is scheduled to complete his Ph.D. in leadership studies this summer.
“Catholic Charities is a vibrant, strong, and healthy organization that serves over 44,000 each year,” said McCann. “Msgr. Father Frank Bach and Donna Hanson have built this agency on the core values that are the cornerstone of everything we do: respect, compassion, justice, and collaboration. It is our sacred, solemn duty to be good stewards of the efforts they have begun.”
