Gonzaga Chorale to perform Duruflé ‘Requiem’ at Cathedral Nov. 15
the Inland Register
(From the Nov. 10, 2005 edition of the Inland Register)
The Gonzaga University Chorale will begin its 16th season with a performance of the great Requiem, opus 9, by Maurice Duruflé on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave. in Spokane. The concert is free and open to the public; a free-will offering will be accepted.
Duruflé’s Requiem was composed in 1947, shortly after World War II, as a memorial to his father, who lost his life working in the French Resistance Movement during the war.
Also on the concert will be French choral works sung by the Gonzaga Women’s Chorus, directed by Andrea Dawson, and the Ave Maria of Camille Saint-Saëns, sung by Anna Maloney.
The Gonzaga University Chorale is directed by Deacon Edward Schaefer, director of Choral Activities at Gonzaga since 1986.
