Sister Mary Claudia Foltz SNJM

Sister Mary Claudia Foltz of the Sisters of the Holy Names died Jan. 25 at Marylhurst, Ore. She was 97 years old; she had been a member of her Religious community for 77 years.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at the Marylhurst Provincial House on Feb. 1, with burial following in the convent cemetery there.

She was born in Seattle; shortly afterward, her family moved to Montana, and when she was nine, to Spokane. She attended Holy Names Academy in Spokane and St. Vincent Academy, Helena, before entering Religious life in 1927.

She was a music teacher and chorus and choir director at St. Mary Academy, Portland; Holy Names College, Spokane; and Marylhurst College, Ore. Ė the last, for more than 50 years.

She studied at Marylhurst College, the University of Southern California, and at Julliard. She taught voice, and led seminars around the world, including Hong Kong. She also loved the written word, and at age 87, published a volume of poetry.

Sister Mary Audrey McCoy SP

Providence Sister Mary Audrey (Annabelle Juliette) McCoy died Jan. 26, 2006, at St. Joseph Residence in Spokane.

The vigil was prayed at St. Joseph on Jan. 30. The funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 31, also at St. Joseph.

Sister Mary Audrey was born June 17, 1923, in Spokane, and entered the Providence novitiate in Seattle in 1944. She professed her first vows in 1945 and final vows in 1948.

She first ministered at St. Michael School, Olympia, in the dietary department of Mount St. Vincent, Seattle.

She held a bachelorís degree from the University of Portland and a masterís degree in library science. She taught and served as librarian in a number of Washington schools, as well as the Bellevue Public Library.

She retired to St. Joseph Residence, Seattle, in 1990.
