Eastern Washington Catholics respond quickly, generously to 2006 Annual Catholic Appeal

the Inland Register

(From the March 16, 2006 edition of the Inland Register)

As of March 10, 6,817 donors have pledged more than $1.56 million to the 2006 Annual Catholic Appeal, according to Chris Smith, Director of Development for the Diocese of Spokane.

The pledges reflect an average gift of some $230 per household, said Smith.

“I am amazed and thankful for the laity’s outstanding support of Bishop Skylstad’s ministries during these very difficult and challenging times,” he said. “People have been unbelievably generous in responding to this year’s Appeal.”

Fourteen parishes already have reached 100 percent or more of their goal: St. Mary of the Rosary, Chewelah; Holy Family, Clarkston; St. Patrick, Colfax; Immaculate Conception, Colville; St. Vincent, Connell; St. Francis, Harrington; Sacred Heart, Kettle Falls; St. Joseph, Lacrosse; Pure Heart of Mary, Northport; Our Lady of the Valley, Okanogan; St. Joseph, Rockford; St. Francis of Assisi, Spokane; Sacred Heart, Springdale; and Holy Ghost, Valley.

The goal of this year’s ACA was to contact 100 percent of the diocese’s parishioners – almost 25,000 households in the 13 counties of Eastern Washington. A variety of methods are being used to encourage participation in the Appeal, including a letter to each household from Bishop Skylstad, letters from pastors to members of their parishes, phone calls from parish-based ACA teams, and other follow-up efforts.

“I hope those who have yet to pledge will prayerfully consider their response to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal,” said Smith.

Parishioners can pledge on-line at the Appeal’s web site, www.spokanecatholicappeal.com, or through their parishes.

Information about the appeal also is available on the web site, or by calling the diocese’s Development Office: (509) 358-4283.
