Leaf-raking blitz

Over 200 people from all over Spokane and Spokane County gathered on Saturday, Nov. 4, to participate in Catholic Charities’ Volunteer Chore Services annual Leaf-Raking Blitz. Director Tom Carroll said that volunteers from “just about every organization you could think of,” including Knights and Setons and Key Club members from Gonzaga, raked 85 yards. Now in its eighth year, the event had its highest turnout ever. The blitz is now part of the Spokane fall calendar, said Carroll, and is something on which seniors depend. “One woman was just ecstatic to have her leaves raked – she just didn’t know how she was going to do it,” Carroll said. “Volunteers are much more appreciated than they can even know.” (IR photo from Catholic Charities)
