A medal from Pope Benedict

the Inland Register

(From the Dec. 21, 2006 edition of the Inland Register)

The pastor of Holy Family Parish, Clarkston, is Father Tom Connolly. Father Connolly was one of those from Eastern Washington who traveled to Rome for the deacon ordinations there of two Spokane Diocese seminarians in October. He took with him a bundle of letters from children at Holy Family School, addressed to Pope Benedict XVI. The packet was delivered, with something unique: the letter from pre-schooler Emma Watson included a gift for the Holy Father, a picture of St. Therese of the Little Flower that had been a gift to her from her parents. Father Connolly recently had the happy task of delivering a medal, bearing the pope’s likeness, to Emma, along with a letter, with the pope’s blessing for her and her family, thanking her for her gift. Emma is in front, proudly holding her medal; with her are parents John and Patti; sister, Ellie; and brother, Noah. (IR photo courtesy of Father Tom Connolly)
