Annual Catholic Appeal 2007: ‘I am extremely grateful to everyone’

by Bishop William S. Skylstad

(From the March 22, 2007 edition of the Inland Register)

I am extremely grateful to everyone who has responded so generously to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. I know that our results so far can be attributed to several factors – to the support of pastors and parish staff; to countless volunteers; and most of all, our ACA is a sign of the commitment of our Catholic community to answer God’s call to stewardship.

The ACA is a crucial part of funding ministry in the Diocese of Spokane. We continue to minister in these very challenging times. Our offices and personnel have been trimmed to the bare minimum. To date, we have raised $1.6 million, and have received pledges from 6,703 of our Catholic 22,459 households – about 29 percent.

Your pledges of support encourage all of us who minister on behalf of the Church. If you have not yet pledged, I ask you once again to prayerfully consider doing so. Please respond as generously as you can. Your help has never been as crucial as it is now.

Our Lenten journey reminds us all of our commitment to live as disciples of Jesus. I am grateful for your response, and grateful for your example of faithful stewardship of God’s gifts.

Please remember me and all diocesan ministers in your prayers during this holy season of Lent. I pray for you with gratitude each day.
