(From the April 12, 2007 edition of the Inland Register)

Three Cataldo School eighth graders recently created work that will be competing on the national level. Farin Nikdel, Amy Leonard and Katie Barsotti produced and starred in an original video production, titled “Poverty,” examining the causes of poverty. Their work was entered in the local Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) multi-media youth arts contest, which had the theme “This is Poverty.” For winning the local contest, as judged by the Diocesan CCHD Advisory Committee, the students will receive small CCHD items and compete nationally, where winners will receive cash prizes, and will be able to direct a cash prize to a local CCHD-funded organization. CCHD is the U.S. Bishops’ domestic anti-poverty program, funding grants to community organizing and economic development projects which address the root causes of poverty. In the Spokane Diocese, it is supported by the Collection for the Church in the United States, taken every May. (IR photo from Catholic Charities)
