(From the April 12, 2007 edition of the Inland Register)
James Peak, studying for the Diocese of Spokane at North American College, Rome, was ordained to the order of deacon on Saturday, March 24, at St. Mary of the Rosary Church, Chewelah. According to Bishop William Skylstad, the occasion was an historical moment in more ways that one; the ordination was the first to take place in that church. Deacon Peak spent a summer in pastoral ministry at St. Mary in 2005.
Deacon Peak is scheduled to be ordained to the priesthood on Friday, June 29, by Bishop Skylstad at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, Spokane.
Also being ordained to the priesthood at that time will be three other men: Deacons Luis Rivera, Luke Tomson, and Kenny St. Hilaire.
Matthew Nicks, another seminarian studying for the Spokane Diocese, will be ordained to the diaconate on Sunday, April 29, at Assumption Church, Spokane.
Deacon Peak is a Major in the Army Reserves.
