Gonzaga Prep graduates, faculty earn awards

Memorial Day weekend 2007, seniors from Gonzaga Prep, Spokane, participated in a Baccalaureate Mass on Saturday, May 26, and graduation exercises on Sunday, May 27. Ninety-eight percent of the classs 205 members will attend college this fall.
Prep graduates were awarded scholarships and grants at a projected four-year value of over $10,800,000 and have accepted awards with a four-year value of over $4,600,000.
Special awards presented at graduation were:
Bishop Skylstad Award, given to a senior boy and girl who have excelled in theory and practice of religion: Catherine Benage, Spokane Valley, and Braden Fetz, Veradale.
Curtis Sharp Award, for scholastic achievement, high moral standards, good leadership and participation in athletics: Theresa Hailey, Deer Park, and John McKenna, North Spokane.
Brother Buskens Award, for a senior boy and girl who in the estimation of the senior class and faculty are outstanding in leadership and loyalty to the school: Elise Kuhar-Pitters and Cameron McMillan, both of Spokane.
Jesuit Secondary Education Association Award, for best representing the ideal of a well-rounded person who is intellectually competent, open to growth, religious, loving and committed to doing justice in generous service to the People of God: Megan Soehren and Thomas Heavey, both of Spokane.
Valedictorian Award: Elizabeth Elder, Spokane.
Salutatorian Award: Megan Soehren, Spokane.
Dr. Jack and Marilyn McKenna Teacher of the Year: Bob Nedved.
Jesuit Secondary Education Association Ignatian Educator: Sherry Colliton.
Alumni of the Year: John and Molly (Parry) McKenna '79.
St. Aloysius Gonzaga Award: Frank Ginge Etter`63 and Tim Welsh`63.
