Spokane seminarian Matthew Larsen ordained a deacon March 29

Spokane seminarian Matthew Larsen was ordained to the diaconate on March 29, 2008 by Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli of the Diocese of Paterson, N.J.
The ordination took place in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Deacon Larsen is completing his third year of theological studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington.
Attending the ordination from Spokane were Deacon Larsenís parents, Carl and Dorothy Larsen, as well as his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. Spokane clergy in attendance included Msgr. Robert Pearson, Vicar for Priests; Father Gene Tracy, pastor of St. Charles Parish in Spokane; Deacon John Ruschiensky, director of Immaculate Heart Retreat Center; and Father Darrin Connall, rector of Bishop White Seminary, Director of Seminarians, and Vocations Director for the Spokane Diocese.
Deacon Larsen was born and raised in Deer Park. He holds an undergraduate degree from Gonzaga University and is a graduate of Gonzaga School of Law. In addition to being a civil lawyer, Deacon Larsen is studying to be a canon lawyer as well.
He will study Spanish this summer and is scheduled to be ordained a priest in May 2009.
