National youth federation hosts November 2009 celebration in Kansas City
the Inland Register
(From the Nov. 13, 2008 edition of the Inland Register)
Every other year, the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) sponsors the National Catholic Youth Convention (NCYC) which brings Catholic Youth from around the country to celebrate their Catholic faith. One year from now, Nov. 19-21, 2009, Catholic youth from around the country will once again come together to celebrate their faith and to grow in their awareness of the many gifts and talents given to them by God. Sometimes youth can feel like they are the only Catholic in their school or maybe the only one in a group they run with. This gathering of nearly 23,000 Catholic Youth is an opportunity to discover that they are not alone in their Catholic faith.
The planning for these events started three years ago. Among the nationally-known Catholic speakers scheduled are Jesse Manibusan and Steve Angrisano. Catholic performers include Ceili Rain, Tony Melendez, Sarah Hart, and many others who will share their Catholic faith. From the large gathering of 23,000, to the smaller breakout sessions, participants will have the opportunity to share thoughts and aspirations.
Plans are already underway for the Spokane Diocese to send a delegation to NCYC in Kansas City. Even though this is still a year away, the complexity of gathering 23,000 people takes time and there are many deadlines that have to be met. Students and parish chaperones interested in this opportunity can contact Dan Glatt for registrations and to have questions answered. The cost is being projected at $975.00 per student or chaperone. The fee covers the transportation, hotel, registration, service fees, and regional fees. Space in the diocese’s delegation is limited.
