the Inland Register
(From the April 9, 2009 edition of the Inland Register)
The 31st annual Spokane CROP Hunger Walk, a hunger-awareness and fundraising project of Church World Services and the Interfaith Council of the Inland Northwest, will begin Sunday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m. at Gonzaga University’s Martin Centre.
This year’s march along the Centennial Trail will be led by the Angus Scott Bagpipe Band.
Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Participants are asked to bring donations of non-perishable food to be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Walkers also are asked to solicit pledges of financial support.
Twenty-five percent of all funds raised remain in the Spokane area, donated to Second Harvest Inland Northwest, Interfaith Hospitality of Spokane, Mid-City Concerns Meals on Wheels, and Spokane Valley Meals on Wheels. The remaining 75 percent of funds raised will be distributed throughout more than 50 countries by Church World Service.
Last year’s walk raised $31,607, bringing a total of $608,657 from Spokane CROP walks since 1979, and has ranked in the top 100 CROP walks nationally.
Walkers who bring in $100 in pledges will receive a free t-shirt.
