Parishes encouraged to apply for 2009 CCHD grants

the Inland Register

(From the April 30, 2009 edition of the Inland Register)

Parishes with organized social ministry committees or commissions are encouraged to apply for local grants from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

Grant applications are available from the Parish Social Ministries office of Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 2253, Spokane, Wash. 99210-2253. Completed applications are due May 22.

CCHD grants are focused to help rectify the root causes of poverty.

The application asks for basic information, including the following:

A description of the project, with goals and expected results, including a plan and timeline;
How the principles of Catholic Social teaching apply to the project, and education plans for social teaching within the parish;
Key responsibilities of parish members within the project; collaboration with the broader community;
How are members of a poverty group involved in planning the project, whether they participate, whether they have a voice in decision-making;
How the project develops new leadership in the parish;
How the project addresses the causes, rather than the symptoms, of poverty, and what systemic change might take place as a result of the project;
Specific plans for CCHD funds that might be received, what costs they might cover, and how costs will be covered if CCHD funds are not available.

Grants are limited to $500.

For more information, call Parish Social Ministries: 358-4273, or 466-8788.
