Registration deadlines for two significant events for youth from around the Spokane Diocese are fast approaching.
The first is the Katrina Hurricane Relief Team, co-sponsored by Catholic Charities. The Katrina Hurricane Relief Team will be traveling to Waveland, Miss., June 22-29. The event is open to high school students, age 16 or older. Cost is $550, which will cover all costs for the students participating in this service project. Space is limited and the deadline for applying is May 5.
Four years after Hurricane Katrina, the need for rebuilding remains critical. Residents of the Gulf area still struggle to put their lives back together. The service team will assist in rebuilding structures and building relationships with the people of Waveland.
Donations to help the Spokane youth effort are needed as well. Donations should be sent to Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Youth Ministry, 1517 E. 33rd Ave., Spokane WA 99203. Gift cards to Wal-Mart or Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse are greatly needed. All cash donations will be used to purchase gift card to be presented to the St. Clare Recovery Organization. More information about St. Clare is available on their web site: www. stclarerecovery.com.
The second event is the National Catholic Youth Convention, Nov. 19-22, 2009 in Kansas City. The Diocese of Spokane has a limited number of spaces available for students in 9-12 grade (2009-2010 school year). The cost is $975, which covers transportation, lodging, registration, and some meals. Registration for this gathering of Catholic youth from around the country is May 15.
For more information, or to donate to the Katrina Relief effort, contact Dan Glatt, youth minister at Our Lady of Fatima Parish: 747-7213.
Space is limited for both events.
