Celebrating seder

the Inland Register

(From the May 21, 2009 edition of the Inland Register)

Cataldo Catholic School’s sixth graders continued the annual tradition of the ceremonial Seder Meal on April 16. David DeRoshia’s and Sara Raske’s students studied Christian heritage and celebrated history with a formal sit-down meal. For many centuries, the seder meal has brought together families and friends to retell the events which led to the freedom of the Israelites. The people’s ancient struggles are relived and their emergence from slavery to freedom is celebrated. There is a set order for all the things done at a Seder meal. There are specific foods which are utilized to remind us of parts of the Exodus story. There are prayers and explanations of the flight from Egypt. A dinner follows the ritual, and ends with a prayer and song. (IR photo courtesy of Cataldo School, Spokane)
