MARYLHURST – Jesuit Father Rick Ganz, director of campus ministry at Gonzaga University, has accepted a new post as special counsel to the president of Marylhurst University.
In his new role he will oversee long-term planning, teach classes, support university ministry, and enhance the university’s presence in the community.
Marylhurst, founded by the Holy Names Sisters in 1893, is Oregon’s oldest Catholic university.
Father Ganz, a member of the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus, also has served as a high school and college teacher and administrator.
BAKER CITY – A donkey has become an important part of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral’s Palm Sunday ceremony. Father Julian Cassar has included the animal, named Zack, in the ceremony for the past four years as a living symbol of Christ coming into Jerusalem.
The donkey, which belongs to a local resident, leads the procession after the opening rituals. Zack is not, however, allowed inside the Cathedral.
Attendees said the small donkey is perfectly behaved as he trots beside Father Cassar, though this year he did bray loudly in fright when the Cathedral bells went off.
