The Spokane Parochial League completed a very successful year for grade school teams by crowning champions in baseball and softball on May 17. The annual Track Meet for Catholic School athletes was also held on June 4.
Cataldo capped an 11-1 season with a 27-1 win over Assumption in the 7th-8th grade championship at the Gonzaga Prep diamond. The game was halted after five innings. Cataldo was North Division champ during the regular season, while Assumption captured the South Division.
The 7th-8th grade championship game at G-Prep was a wild affair, as Assumption/Trinity handed St. Aloysius its only loss of the season in a 15-14 slugfest. St. Aloysius had won the regular season crown.
The Parochial League also had a full round-robin schedule in baseball and softball for 5th-6th grade players where standings are not kept.
Over 150 athletes in grades 3 through 8 competed at Gonzaga Prep in a full slate of both running and field events.
The 2009-10 Parochial Sports season starts up in September with leagues for 5th-6th graders and 7th-8th graders in tackle football and girls volleyball.
