Providence Sister Nellie Marguerite O’Connor, SP (Sister Francis Jerome) passed away June 20 at Mount St. Joseph, Spokane, Washington, at 94 years of age, after 76 years as a Sister of Providence.
The Vigil Service was held June 25 at Mount St. Joseph Chapel, Spokane. The funeral Mass was celebrated there the next day, with interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Spokane.
She was born Nellie Marguerite O’Connor on Nov. 3, 1914, in Missoula, Mont. She received her elementary education at the local schools in Missoula before graduating from Sacred Heart Academy High School in Missoula in 1932.
Sister Marguerite entered the Religious community on July 17, 1932 and then entered the Providence novitiate the following January in Spokane. She professed her first vows on July 19, 1934 and her final vows on July 19, 1937.
Sister Marguerite received her two-year normal diploma in 1937 and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Social Studies in 1942, both from the College of Great Falls (now known as the University of Great Falls) in Montana. In 1955, she earned a Master’s Degree in English from Seattle University, and in 1984 earned CREDO Certification from Gonzaga University.
Sister Marguerite taught in and administered both elementary and secondary schools, including St. Joseph Academy, Sprague, Wash. She also served 24 years as registrar for the College of Great Falls and four years as a member of the college’s Formation Team.
Before retiring in 2003, she served as the librarian at Mount St. Joseph in Spokane.

Sister Margaret Marie Crowe of the Adrian Dominicans died June 20 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 93 years of age and in the 76th year of her Religious profession: 71 years in the Dominican Sisters of Edmonds and six years in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
The vigil was held June 24 at St. Catherine Chapel in the Dominican Life Center. The funeral Mass was celebrated there the next day. Burial was at the congregation cemetery.
Sister Margaret Marie was born in Portland, Ore. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy in Seattle and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Business Administration from St. Teresa College in Winona, Minn.
Sister spent 42 years ministering in the medical field in at various locations in Washington, including St. Joseph Hospital, Spokane, and 11 years as a hospital chaplain at St. Elizabeth, Yakima, Wash.
In 1996 Sister became a resident of Assumption Convent in Seattle, and then became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich., in 2003.
