Gonzaga Readers Theater presents staged reading of ĎTake Me Outí
the Inland Register
(From the Nov. 12, 2009 edition of the Inland Register)
The Gonzaga Readers Theater Project announces its next staged reading of a modern play confronting contemporary issues: Take Me Out, by Richard Greenberg.
Winner of the 2003 Tony for Best Play, Take Me Out is the story of the Empires, a professional baseball team whose sure-bet season to take the World Series careens deep into left field when star Darren Lemming decides to come out of the closet on national TV. His honesty forces his teammates to confront all the fears, prejudices, and divisions they politely conceal.
Take Me Out moves from comedy to tragedy and back as it asks why men can work, play, suffer, and do so many other things so well together, but just canít figure out how to talk to each other.
Featuring a cast of Gonzaga theater veterans and newcomers, including Zags basketball star Steven Gray as Darren, Take Me Out will be performed Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m., and Friday, Nov. 13, at 10 p.m. All performances take place in the Magnuson Theatre at the east end of College Hall at GU.
Admission is by voluntary donation and reservations are not accepted. The production includes rough, locker room language and adult situations and is not appropriate for children.
