All Saints at All Saints

All Saints students were a day late, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of first graders as they portrayed their favorite saint in honor of All Saints Day. Here Milo Miller as St. John Bosco, Claire Eckhardt as St. Clare, Bridget Murphy as St. Brigid, Amy Bosch as St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Ciara Hagan as St. Rose of Lima, and Colin Kelly as St. Andrew the Apostle finish explaining why they chose their saints and what their prop means. Prior to giving their reports in class, first graders went to chapel, where they received a blessing and prayed a litany of the saints. (IR photo courtesy of All Saints School, Spokane)

Literary pilgrimage

Msgr. Kevin Codd met with about 30 members of St. Peter parish, Spokane, for an evening of food and discussion of his book To the Field of Stars, describing his experience as a pilgrim to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The menu included some of the foods he encountered during the course of his pilgrimage. Msgr. Codd, pictured talking with Barbara Bonham, answered questions and discussed the themes of the book. The parishioners’ reading project for next fall will be Enduring Grace: Portraits of Seven Female Mystics, by Carol Flinders. (IR photo courtesy of Andi McGoran)

Birds of a Feather

Anita Smith, the Bird Lady, visited St. Patrick School in Spokane on Nov. 16, and delighted the students by entertaining them with five exotic birds. The big white bird on the right is a male cockatoo named Snowball. The bird on the left is a female military cockatoo named Lady Clare. (IR photo courtesy of St. Patrick School)
