IHRC’s upcoming slate includes Mother’s Day brunch, grief retreat

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center (IHRC), 6910 S. Ben Burr Rd. in Spokane, is hosting a series of events for education, spiritual growth and healing, and socializing.
• A retreat titled “Living Through Grief,” by Father Stan Malnar MD, will begin Friday, April 30, and conclude Sunday, May 2. Father Malnar will assist participants in not only managing their grief, but also helping them process their wounds and sorrow, passing through the Paschal Mystery. Cost is $170 per person, $270 for couples, and $100 for commuters.
• On Sunday, May 9, IHRC will host its seventh annual Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The brunch includes an all-you-can-eat buffet, children’s activities, and a special gift for mothers. Menu items include champagne, a carving station with beef tri-tip in bourbon sauce, a rum glazed ham, waffles, salad, pasta, and dessert bar.
Msgr. William Van Ommeren will celebrate Mass in the main chapel at 8 a.m., preceded by First Communicants crowning a statute the Blessed Mother. Tickets are $25 for adults and $6 for children ages 2-12.
• Father Steve Dublinski, rector of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes and co-Vicar General of the Spokane Diocese, will present the fifth Catechetical Evening of Prayer on Tuesday, May 11, at 5 p.m. Father Dublinski will be teaching Chapters 13-15 of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, discussing such topics as “The Last Things: the Resurrection of the Body, Death, Particular Judgment, Heaven, Purgatory, Hell, Last Judgment, New Heavens, New Earth”; introduction to the celebration of the liturgy; and the first Sacraments of Initiation.
The evening begins with 5 p.m. Mass, followed by dinner, two conferences, and opportunities for questions and discussions.
Cost is $35 per person.
