Spiritual challenges of military life to be discussed

the Inland Register

(From the May 20, 2010 edition of the Inland Register)

Each night on the news we hear the stories of brave men and women in the military and their heroic efforts to defend and protect this country. We celebrate news of their safe return to families and our communities, but do we know the depth of their struggles to adjust to being home?

Where is God in the midst of war? Are our spiritual foundations shaken or shored up by the experience of military service and combat duty?

Join us at 7 p.m.on June 3 at St. Joseph Parish, 3720 E. Colbert Rd., Colbert, Wash., to explore spiritual challenges faced by military members of our community as they transition home. We will examine ways a faith community can provide welcome and share the spiritual journey of combat veterans.

Marian Beaumier will lead the session. A graduate of Gonzaga University (MA in Religious Studies), and Eastern Washington University (MSW), she serves as Director of ACT Ministries, working to help faith communities engage with people struggling with mental health challenges.

For information, call the parish: 466-4991.
